NYC Board of Elections General Counsel Steve Richman

A top NYC Board of Elections lawyer is being probed for sexual harassment, a source with knowledge of the situation revealed.

Steven Richman, who serves as a city Board of Elections general counsel, faces probes from both the city Department of Investigation and the Manhattan DA’s office, the source confirmed.

“It was a sexual thing,” the source said. “It wasn’t anything with a vendor or money.”

Richman has requested a leave of absence, which the board’s commissioners granted Tuesday. It extends through Sept. 25, at which point he could ask for an extension or potentially return to work.

He has served as the board’s general counsel since Jan. 1999 and served as a member of the Democratic National Convention’s Rules Committee, according to his LinkedIn profile.

Top health experts caution against reopening society before coronavirus testing capacity expands

The president of Harvard’s Institute of Medicine, Dr. Harvey V. Fineberg, said it’s not a choice between dealing with the disease or dealing with the economy. “We have to do both,” Fineberg told a symposium sponsored by Harvard’s T.H. Chan School of Public Health and the New England Journal of Medicine.
Different parts of the country are in different stages of the epidemic with New York well into the first wave and other places just beginning to see the impact of the disease. This matters, said Caroline Buckee, Harvard associate professor of epidemiology and the associate director of the university’s Center for Communicable Disease Dynamics.

Knowing where the virus is spreading is key to relaxing social distancing and returning to normalcy, Buckee said.

In addition to different parts of the country seeing different disease curves, there are “important epidemiological timelines here where when you become infected you’re spreading the virus, … Read More

Law Schools

Columbia Law School has decided to push back on-campus interviews for summer associates until January 2021 amid pressure from law firms, according to a published report.

Several other law schools are also considering delays, according to the report by Law.com.

Law firms interview students who have finished their first year of law school in late July or early August, Law.com explains. That gives firms a full year of grades to consider for their summer associate programs.

But several top schools are either requiring or mandating pass-fail grades this semester as they go online in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. That would give law firms just one semester of grades to consider if on-campus interviews are conducted this summer.

Several major New York law firms are

As Supreme Allied Commander in Europe, Gen Eisenhower announced the D-Day landings at Normandy to the people of France and Western Europe. Warning them of further loss and tragedy ahead, he advised the Resistance to be patient and wait for orders. Eleven months later, the Germans surrendered. “Great battles lie ahead. I call upon all who love freedom to stand with us. Keep your faith staunch – our arms are resolute – together we shall achieve victory.”

23 Nikita Khrushchev, February 25, 1956

Delivered in secret before a rapt audience of Communist apparatchiks, this remarkable speech by a Soviet leader helped destroy Stalin’s reputation.
