About the Society
It is with regret that we have to announce the dissolution of the Society of Cartographers (SoC).
Established back in 1964 as the Society of University Cartographers (SUC), for 55 years it has provided support and opportunities for those involved in all aspects of mapmaking to meet and exchange views and techniques, with the aim of achieving high standards of cartographic illustration.
The final AGM took place on Thursday 12th September 2019, and the last membership year expired on 31 December 2019.
We would like to thank everyone – members and non-members – who have supported the Society over the years.
For all those interested in learning more about maps and mapping, we encourage you to explore the resources offered by the Society’s sister organisation, the British Cartographic Society (BCS). A link to their website follows:
There is an intention to continue the Society’s flagship publication – the Bulletin – in a different form and offer it as part of the BCS portfolio, and also to make available an archive of SoC/SUC Bulletins and Newsletters via the BCS website. A temporary access to this archive is still available using the menu above.
kind regards and best wishes for the future
